Course Overview
Quick Brick Training Academy offers a 1-day bricklaying course to introduce you to the basics of laying bricks. However, mastering the skills required for safe and proficient construction of masonry structures takes time. Practice is key, and the more you invest, the better and more consistent your skills will become.
During our comprehensive 5-day bricklaying course, you’ll have the opportunity to practice laying mortar beds and working with both bricks and blocks multiple times. This hands-on experience will enable you to confidently and accurately lay bricks and blocks to meet safety standards and achieve high-quality results. Additionally, you’ll acquire proficiency in other essential bricklaying skills as outlined below.

Day 1
Introduction to Bricklaying
- Get acquainted with essential tools and their usage
- Learn to gauge and mix mortars
- Load and arrange materials on the site
- Master trowel techniques and laying the bed joint
- Practice buttering brick joints
- Build corners plumb and level
- Lay bricks to the line and explore various pointing techniques
- Observe demonstrations for each technique
- Construct a single skin brick wall in Stretcher Bond with returns and piers
- Discuss the importance of correct footings for walls
Day 2
Brickwork Bonds and Techniques
- Explore various brickwork bonds, including English Bond, Flemish Bond, and Garden Wall Bonds
- Learn to use creasing tiles and brick on edge coping
- Engage in practical exercises by building a double-skinned wall with a pier and a return
Day 3
Damp-Proof Courses and Cavities
- Study the theory behind damp-proof courses and cavities
- Focus on constructing blockwork corners
- Learn about cavity brick and blockwork, covering both external brickwork and internal blockwork corners
- Understand the methods commonly used in new-build properties across the UK
- Discover how to use door/window profiles and close cavities using traditional vertical DPC or cavity closure techniques
Day 4
Advanced Brick and Block Techniques
- Continue working on cavity brick and block structures
- Incorporate external brickwork and internal blockwork corners
- Gain expertise in aligning with building regulations and authorities
- Learn to use lintels with cavity trays and weepholes
- Practice laying a soldier course above windows
Day 5
Completion and Certification
- Complete the brickwork module, including lintel setting with a cavity tray and weepholes
- Finish up any remaining tasks on the project
- Demolish and clean structures built during the course
- Organize tools and equipment
- Recap the key points covered throughout the course
- Receive course notes and the Goldtrowel training certificate as recognition of your accomplishment
